Is it nepotism if I decide to feature my husband for this week’s 20 Q’s? Well, biased or not, I’ve had a hard time finding anyone more energetic and excited about Wichita than Paul. He loves everything about it, gets involved as much as his schedule will allow, and can’t wait to see the changes that come along in the next several years.

He spends a majority of his time out of town on business, so he really appreciates being able to come home to the environment Wichita harbors. Although he’s a die hard Denver Broncos fan, (I KNEW I liked him from the beginning!) Wichita is his passion and he’ll stick up for it no matter what.

His other passion? Entrepreneurship. He went through YEK while at North High, winning several awards and realizing the direction he wanted to take his life. It’s fitting, then, that he should work for a start-up company called Alpha BioSystems. They’re a team working hard to promote their product, help the environment, and draw attention to the organics industry one day at a time. For more info on their product, visit www.alphabiosystems.com.

Name:  Paul Wemmer

Age: 28

Title: National Account Manager

Place of Employment: Alpha BioSystems

Number of Years Employed there: 4 months… going on 4 years

Education: I’m a Shocker, of course!  (Bachelor LAS) Integrated Marketing and Communication

Are you from Wichita?

Born and raised here and just want to get it out there that I love Wichita- what a great place to grow up!  If you don’t like Wichita and are one of those who say nothing positive, I don’t want to hear it!  My favorite thing about Wichita is the people. I have traveled all over the country and you just cannot find many places where the people are so nice.

What do you do in your spare time?

What spare time?  Hang out with my two best friends (my wife and my puppy).  We like to golf and have recently taken up mountain bike riding (well, not the pup so much…).  I also love just about all sports, anything to keep me active.

Who is one person you’d like to meet and why?

No doubt, I would love to meet George W. Bush. He had to deal with a lot during his presidency, and I firmly believe he had the interest of the people in mind the entire time. Anyone who can keep their composure as well as he did deserves my respect and gratitude!

What book are you reading?

Who has time to read books?  I am actually in the middle of about three; Organic Gardening for Dummies, Chemistry for Dummies and whatever the most recent Vince Flynn book is.

What was your first job?

I sold fireworks at the age of 14 and made $2.00 an hour.  We would work 10 – 12 hours a day in 95+ degree heat.  It was one of the best learning experiences for me and one of the best jobs I have ever had.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Hold on tight!  My advice: any mistakes you make (as long as you survive) just help to build your experience and character.  Take risks (educated risks) and listen, listen to others whether you think that they know what they are talking about or not.  Every experience, every day is something new.

Do you have any pets?

Absolutely, I have a very spoiled Vizsla named Bailey.  She is my buddy and most importantly my hunting dog.  She also protects my wife when I am out of town.

If you had to live your life over again, what one thing would you change?

I would change absolutely nothing.  I may be embarrassed by things I have done but again, what a great reason to not make the same mistake twice.

If you won $50 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?

Give it all to charity… Just kidding! No way, I am not that nice.  I would take care of my family (but only if they didn’t expect it) I would travel with my wife and I am sure we would purchase a few new things.  I would invest the bulk of my money, mostly on small business and the rest would be set aside for retirement.

What 5 words describe you the best?

Talkative, Honest, Caring, Emotional, Determined

Are you pursuing your dream?

Everyday; though sometimes I get sidetracked.

Are you a collector of anything?

Matchbooks! I try to get one from every city that I visit. There are some really cool designs out there…

What is your taste in music?

Everything. Sinatra is the best all time but on any given day I will be rappin’ with 2 Pac, screamin’ with Led Zep, jammin’ to Bob Marley or slowin’ it down with Zac Brown.

Favorite childhood program?

GI Joes, maybe He Man (She Ra was so Hot).
